Summer has arrived and with it the plum rains or meiyu. Getting caught in the rain is an all too often occurrence and the chances of catching a cab are remote. And as rain hits the streets umbrella sellers materialize to hawk their wares to desperate passersby.

While the need to carry these accessories is a nuisance for most, fashionistas may find the plum rains are an opportunity to sport a designer umbrella. The Global Times took a look at some of the designer umbrellas on

High rents are driving out restaurants at Qianmen Street and many old-Beijing snack shops have already closed, leaving the authorities desperate for a new plan.

A waitress at Donglaishun Hotpot Restaurant at Qianmen Street yawned at noon Monday as she welcomed the few guests arriving. At the dinner hall of Donglaishun on the second floor of the Cate Broadway building, there were a few customers at lunchtime.

Asamoah Gyan scored an extra time goal to nail Ghana's 2-1 victory over the United States in the World Cup second round on Saturday.

Gyan, who had converted Ghana's two group stage penalty shots, won an aerial challenge with Ashley Cole and kept his balance to blast home three minutes into extra time.

For the rest of extra time, the United States pressed hard and created numerous chances, which were either ruined by Ghana keeper Richard Kingson or the Americans' inabitity to finish the attack.

Michael Jackson estate has rolled in almost one billion dollars in the year since he died, according to media reports Tuesday.

That's 47 times what the debt-ridden King of Pop made in the previous year when he was still alive.

The huge sum was mainly from record sales and lucrative deals brokered by the estate.

It is two thirds of what Elvis Presley's estate has made in the 33 years since his death.

"I developed a stiffness in my Achilles tendon last week and sought medical attention," Bolt said in a statement released through the New York meet organizers. "After careful consultation with Dr. Hans Muller-Wohlfahrt at his clinic in Munich, I
