Churches in Beijing

Thanksgiving is coming again! For Westerners, it is a day to show appreciation to the Lord for every trail he carries and all the things he has done in the whole year. It is a good time to be grateful for the entire blessed thing. The church plays an important role to learn about gratitude. In Beijing, you can choose one of the following churches to spend the holiday.

Xuanwumen Catholic Church (Southern Church)

Located in Xuanwumennei Street in Beijing, Xuanwumen Catholic Church (Southern Church) is the oldest Catholic Cathedral in China. It was built by the Italian missionary P. Matteo Ricci in the Wanli Year of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). At first, it was a small hall located in Shoushan College. It was destroyed many times by natural disaster and also by the Boxer Uprising in 1900. The current cathedral was rebuilt in 1904 in Baroque style.

Today, the Xuanwumen Catholic Church attracts an increasing number of Chinese and foreign worshippers each Sunday. It is a popular venue for weddings and is always crowded during Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
